Commodore Perry and the Battle of Lake Erie

Presenter: Preston Pierce

Description: On September 10, 1813, American ships under the command of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry engaged a British naval squadron on Lake Erie during the War of 1812. Hear more about this battle and the creation of the flag that said “DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP” and one of the most famous Naval quotations in US History, “We have met the enemy and they are ours!”

Stress Less

Presenter: Rev. Dr. Richard McCaughey (See biography below)

Description: Multiple studies have shown that in addition to exercise and proper nutrition, stress reduction and behavioral changes are significant contributors to good health and positive attitudes. This workshop is designed to help strengthen your skills in managing your stressors that could impair your quality of life.

Biography: Dick McCaughey was Director of Spiritual Care for Thompson Health in Canandaigua for fourteen years, and before retirement he was a Fellow in the American Association of Integrative Medicine. He and his colleague, Jennifer Klein, have been conducting an eight week stress reduction program for nineteen years. In addition, they have made many presentations throughout the Rochester region.

Description: Ellen will illustrate how one agency creates, supports, and administers alliances to cultivate positive social change by offering educational programs and initiatives to serve adults and youth within the community. The presentation will include a true story of how a family deals with heroin addiction.
